I am very excited about this grand experiment that the city of Seattle is going to try. Washington State has had the highest minimum wage in the country for the last decade, and is one of the strongest economies in the US. So now Seattle is tackling the issues of inequality and the working poor with a well thought out, compromise law designed to put pressure on the big (and profitable) corporate companies first and bring the small business crowd up to speed later. While it is not everything that every different group would have preferred, it is a great step in the right direction and something that no one else in the US is attempting. I personally think it will work. As a prime example of a real Small business, I can clearly state that I need customers with disposable income. I need people who actually make a living wage so they can shop in stores like mine. While it is scary for a business on my size, I do hope that the people of Seattle use this opportunity to shop local, keep the money cycling though their local economies and prove to America that Trickle Up is actually the economic system that works.
