I am very pleased that the final spending bill included a $38.5 million appropriation for new funding for the Title XI program, which allows the government to partner with the private sector to build state-of-the-art vessels at lower costs and invest in shipyard modernization – all in the United States – while creating and retaining important American jobs in the maritime industry. My colleagues and I on the House Armed Services Committee worked together to authorize new funding in this year’s National Defense Authorization Act because we understand the importance of this vital program that keeps the U.S. economically competitive and continues to show the world that our maritime workforce cannot be beat.
