I am very sensitive to the fact that the police in this country are often left unchecked. Ferguson is just another example. However, can I say that I am absolutely outraged that the organizations that pop up when something terrible happens arent there when kids are struggling day to day. Unfortunately, I am hesitant to say what I want to say because I have a mixed group of friends on my Facebook page and I dont want for my white friends to think that I am giving them a pass. We all need to take responsibility for our youth while they are trying to do good and not wait until tragedy happens. Having said that… I recognize that there is great work being done in the African American community by African Americans. I also know that there are organizations that need to step it up! I know I am going to hear from people on this one. I dont give a flip! I live in Villa Heights/Belmont neighborhood where black men are being raised by the streets. Shame on us. Where are our black social, religious, and professional organizations? What are the mega churches doing? So what you throw good parties and raise a lot of money. These boys need you! They need your guidance, your wisdom, your roadmap to success. I have lived in the most troubled neighborhoods in Charlotte and I dont see you! Correct me and tell me I am wrong. What work are the Black Social / political organizations / religious doing in Villa Heights, Belmont, Wesley Heights…. There is a very prominent African American church in our neighborhood that doesnt invest in the people in the neighborhood. Dont talk to me about Ferguson unless you are going to talk about helping our kids succeed. Wake up and know that in the state of NC our kids are receiving an education that keeps them in low paying jobs. They are receiving the blue collar labor track beginning in junior high school. They are VULNERABLE! Have you spoken to one of these kids lately? This is a plea to our older brothers to take and active role in supporting the young folks. I have been accused of being judgmental… Prove me wrong! Tell me what you are doing and the impact cuz a sister isnt seeing it! #tellmeiamwrong #wakeuppeople #theyneedresourcesandtime
