I am very uneasy with comedians these days - I mean real comedians, not just plumbers, car-mechanics, doctors, accountants etc, many of whom deserve this appellation - but those odd looking people I see on TV who stand in front of an audience and try to make them laugh. They do their best to draw you in…and then you find yourself being somehow lowered and cheapened by the cruelty of their observations. It is usually a leering young man in a shiny suit, the sort of person you would do anything to avoid in real life.
