I am wearing down but yesterday I made my trip to York Beach, - TopicsExpress

I am wearing down but yesterday I made my trip to York Beach, Maine where my son Brian and I spent nine summer vacations when he was growing up. Same 3-family cottage, same week the end of August, same families; the Plaisteds (who still own the cottage) and the Huxtables from Massachusetts. Beautiful day. I enjoyed a walk on the beach and a telephone chat with my son along the way. Then it was off the Nubble Light House which is one of my favorite places. A stroll though York which is pretty much closed up for the season and then down Route 1 to Kittery where I stopped at Warrens for their famous salad bar; my favorite way to nosh. It has shrunk significantly since my last visit but it was still good and the lobster roll was big enough for breakfast left overs! I drove into Portsmouth for a walk and an excuse to go to Annabelles for ice cream. What is/has happened in Portsmouth is perplexing. Four major hotel chains and condominiums are on top of and surrounding the downtown area. A quote describing Washington DC in John Cheevers The Wapshot Chronicle: How do they keep it up? Everywhere you look you see signs of demolition and creation. The mind of the city seems divided about its purpose and its tastes... Its just not the same but things/people rarely are. So today I am relaxing and reading Cheever which is a appropriate thing to do if you are in New England.
