I am woman hear me roar!! (This post written by the Renada part of MitchRenada. Just wanted to make sure that was clear LOL) The late 70s early 80s pushed women on towards the desire to be Superwomen. Remember that wonderful perfume with the snazzy song: I can bring home the bacon Fry it up in a pan and Never, Never, Never let you forget your are a man Cause Im a woooooman? This brought on a need for women to step it up a notch. Bring home the bacon was quickly greeted with stay at home moms heading out to the work place to punch the time clock. We still maintained the same at home duties....just added a little more to the plate. Then, as the 80s rolled in we felt the need to enroll our children in every sporting and social event available. Tack on the need to serve as the PTO President. By this point, the plate was stacked to the hilt. But wait, we need to toss in.....at some point...serving God. Yes, lets add in being a Sunday School teacher, serving on whatever committee we can, and fixing meals for those sick, grieving, or friends having babies and joining the Superwoman club. We could do it all right......I mean....we are woman hear us roar.....right. Or is the roar possibly a moan from exhaustion? What happens if you cant live up to societies definition of Superwoman? The feeling of failure quickly hits. With failure comes depression. Looking at depression statistics this morning seemed shocking to me ..... Here are a few: *Estimated 121 million people suffer from depression *This number is currently increasing every year by at least 20% *This figures to 1 in every 10 Americans are depressed *The average age for depression 45-64 *NOW here is the kicker ladies: Women have a higher rate of depression than men So, as I thought about this.....I turned to the Biblical definition of a woman......Proverbs 31 God gives us a different look at women and our duties. The first thing I noted when reading Proverbs 31 was the fact that God doesnt say we must do everything! Nowhere does he use the words....Superwoman. Proverbs 31 does tell us to gain our husbands trust, clothes her family, selects choice foods for our families, bring respect and wisdom..........and I fully believe live a life that shows reverence to God. But lets look at Verse 15..........it mentions the word...help. What HELP? Yes, She rises while it is yet night and provides food for her household and portions for her maidens Maidens back in the day = helpers. A Proverbs 31 Woman had help! God doesnt define her a one show Superwoman. It is ok to accept help. It is ok to hire someone to help you if that is financially possible in your family. Ladies, we dont have to do it all. Allowing someone to help us will open the opportunity for us to spend more time with God.... to place Him first and in the center of the plate. We dont have to do everything perfectly. Our God does not expect perfection. Being a Proverbs 31 Woman means......finding a healthy balance. While the world wants us to think you must have it all and do it all......the worlds plan of action also sets us up for a lifetime of failure and disappointment. Once we get to this point, we have a feeling of being overwhelmed and will quickly become a depression statistic. If you are one of the statistics......remember..ask for help. Get help quickly. You are NEVER a number to God.......he knows you by name. Gods plan for woman (Proverbs 31) is perfect. If you need help....please seek and ask for help. Let go and give God control. God has a reason for every season in our lives. Love you all. Signed ....... Just Me.....a sinner saved by Grace.......Trying so hard to be a Mary in a Martha World
