I am writing on behalf of the Dutton Park State School Parents and Citizens Association seeking to make a properly made submission. The BaT Tunnel construction is going to require significant increase in road activity along Annerley Road turning into the Southern Connection Boggo Road construction worksite, straight past two sides of the Dutton Park State School. For example we note that according to the Environmental Impact Statement the peak will be 60 spoil load trucks per day from the site. Although construction activities are proposed to be limited between school drop off and pick up hours, it is inevitable that there will be an increase in other vehicles - either supporting or preparing for construction activity - during the school drop off and pick up times. Many of these drivers may be unaware that there is a school in the vicinity as there is currently no “School Zone” designated for Dutton Park State School along Annerley Road. The road is already an accident hot spot. There have been two cyclist fatalities along Annerley road in the past year. Responsibility for designating school zones lies with the Brisbane City Council, but the State Government also has funding available for additional signage where designation has occurred. Brisbane City Council has already been petitioned to designate a school zone for this area, but are yet to formally respond. Dutton Park P and C requests that before construction begins a school zone is installed along Annerley Road and the Proponent in conjunction with Brisbane City Council ensure it is installed in 2015 with appropriate signage and the Coordinator General make that a condition of the project going ahead.
