I am writing this because I know how hard it is to come up with extra money. I know how it is to have a pet in need and not have the money for that unforeseen crisis. I know what it is to think you may have to put down an animal with a fixable problem, because no matter what you do there is just no more money. One of the programs I want to start with procuring my non profit status is a fund for people in this type of situation. Not for everyone, that seems impossible, but for people we know who are genuine good pet owners in a crisis situation. Time will tell if I can manage it. Those of you who have been following me for a while will remember Isabella, adopted by my friend and actually extended family in San Diego, Rachel McBride Cumming. We got the kitten down there and Bella is doing great...in fact is running that household now. This is not about Bella, but about her cat sister, Sugar. Sugar is six yrs old, well cared for and loved by Rachel and her kids. She should have a long life in front of her. A couple months ago Sugar started peeing in weird places, odd for her. She is generally a good girl. The vet prescribed antibiotics for her and things straightened out. Fast forward a couple of months and she is doing it again. Long story short, Sugar has two stones in her bladder. These stones have to be removed surgically. The stone diet has been tried without much luck. The surgery will only run about $600, which is actually reasonable for this surgery. But so far the vets are not willing to take payments. Rachel does not have an extra $600. She is not on welfare and works hard to support her family...but this extra seems impossible. A little bit about Rachel. Rachel is sister to my nieces husband and my family has known her family through church, forever. Rachel is good people. She is a single mom to two kids, raising them right. She is working two jobs to do so. Even though she struggles so much financially she gave money towards Charlie. She loves her cats, they are family. Now Sugar is sick and the solution is so easy...at least it is if you have $600 extra dollars. She is frantic to figure out a way to help Sugar. Rachel did not ask me to write this. In fact I hope she does not get angry with me for doing so. I am wondering if we as a group could help her help Sugar? There are 133 people in this group and each post is seen by an average of 60 people. If we each kicked in $10-20 this would be a done deal and most of us...even me...can squeeze that much out. Or maybe I should start a fund raiser...tell me what you think. Those of you who have known me for a while know that I believe we should reach out and help those around us if we can.
