I am writing this missive from my heart from an airplane flying - TopicsExpress

I am writing this missive from my heart from an airplane flying over the desert Southwest. Today I got to see the Mississippi River winding down to the Delta from the top of the sky. I am on my way to San Francisco to bear witness and celebrate as my family friend Andy marries his bride Joan, and Im so excited to meet her, and Im so lucky to get to spend time there with my beautiful mother Sally. I am wearing a locket that Andys grandmother Charlotte- my lifetime mentor, friend, and advocate, a woman who shone her great and generous light on all of us, and who taught by example a beautiful way of being in the world- passed down to me when she passed 17 years ago. I miss her so much, and I know that her spirit will be present with us as we dance and celebrate her beloved grandson and his soon-to-be wife. The more I puzzle and pray on how to keep my heart open, the more I come to see that love is here- the miracle and the magic of love is only ever right here in front of us, right now, and that being present to that love is the greatest gift we could give ourselves and the world. To open up and receive that love, what a gift! Love is not in the future, friends. It is not for when you get better. Its not for when youre not broke or when you lose weight or when the revolution comes or when you write your novel. It is now and it is here, and more and more I am coming to understand that it requires that we breathe deep and get grounded and present in our bodies to perceive it. Im pretty sure that being present and grounded in our bodies and with each other can save our lives; Im almost certain that it could save the world. I am so thankful for the magic and the miracle of my silly sweet family- my great loves Duncan and Jasper, and my deeply amazing, inspiring, beautiful friends at Short Street Cakes. Can this love be real? I think, more and more, yes, I believe, that it is.
