I apologize for the long post everyone. Im sure youre all busy with your own personal and work lives but the following is very important to me so please please please read in its entirety. Thank you! OK, some of you reading this may already be familiar with my work last summer with Progressive Arts Alliance. For those that dont know, PAA is a non for profit organization based in Cleveland, Ohio. If I were to go into detail about all of the important work PAA does for people of Cleveland Id have you here much longer than I intend. You can visit their website directly here: paalive.org/index.html What I will say is this, last summer, PAA invited me to fly to Cleveland, Ohio for a 2 week summer camp that introduced children from the ages of 10 to 18 to the 4 Elements of Hip Hop. In just 2 weeks, these kids were taught how to Rap, Break Dance, write Graffiti and DJ which is where I came in to the picture. At first, I was really apprehensive about taking on the responsibility of teaching kids how to DJ. To know me, is to know I take DJing seriously. Maybe to a fault, LOL. Also, I wasnt sure Id be able to control a room full of kids. Im rarely around them so the thought of not only having to teach them, but making sure they behaved while they were under my supervision was nerve wracking. But after my first day, their discipline and passion to truly learn what I was there to teach them SMACKED ME RIGHT IN THE FACE! These kids are amazing and what moved me the most about experiencing the summer camp was how this was an opportunity for adolescents... teenagers... from all walks of life, varying financial backgrounds and ethnicities to get together and learn about each other. I mean, outside of PAAs Hip Hop summer camp, these kids wouldnt be associating. Long story short, last summers camp was a huge success. So much so, that it inspired me to blog about it on my website: djrobswift/2013/08/10/its-just-begun-my-thoughts-on-the-paa-rhapsody-summer-camp/ But, there wouldnt of been a summer camp last year and I couldnt of gotten the opportunity to experience these wonderful kids, if it were not for the donations on behalf of the people of Cleveland and across the country. So in closing, Im writing this post to you all, humbly asking if you would consider making a donation to Progressive Arts Alliance for 2014s Hip Hop summer camp. Many of you reading this are promoters, DJs and run your own companies so Im sure you can all appreciate what kind of financial undertaking this is for a non for profit organization. I know many of you work hard and have your own financial responsibilities but whatever you can donate would be deeply appreciated. Lastly, just so yall know, no one from PAA asked me to write this post. I chose to on my own because I witnessed first hand the power of this summer camp. If youre interested in making a donation, please log on to: https://indiegogo/projects/funding-for-scholarships-for-rhapsody-hip-hop-summer-arts-camp WHATEVER YOU CAN DONATE WOULD BE DEEPLY APPRECIATED, BY PAA, ME, BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY THE KIDS THAT TAKE PART IN THE CAMP!!! If any of yall have any questions about PAA and want to contact me personally, please do so! PS If you cant afford to make a donation, at least help spread the word to others you think might be able to help out. THANK YOU!
