I applaud Commissioner Silver for doing the right thing by taking a bold stance that shows NBAs zero tolerance of bigotry. It is both shocking and sad that such ignorance and blatancy still persist in the world of sports today after more than 70 years since Jesse Owens stood up against racism. Sports play an important part in the American culture. It also reflects and shapes our moral values as a country. For the sake of progress and raising our national conscience, we should never turn a blind eye to any egregious comments or actions that express discrimination. As Mandela believed, Sports has the power to change the world, power to inspire, and power to unite people. I look forward to seeing NBA and other sports organizations adopt and enforce clear policies and codes of conduct that reflect such spirit of unity among players and fan base.
