I applaud the pope for his recent comments about the churches - TopicsExpress

I applaud the pope for his recent comments about the churches stand on certain social issues that have created barriers to Christ instead of bridges. The church has become far too political recently . We have moved away from our central calling and the simple message of Christs love. The truth is Jesus is neither liberal or conservative, democrat or republican. His message crosses all lines and His love spans all barriers. It is time for the church to step away from its preoccupation with secondary issues which are merely the symptoms and focus on the cure. Christ did not come into the world to condemn the world but that the world through Him might be saved. I know some will say that I have lost my way and softened my positions, but the truth is I simply cannot align myself with hatred, bigotry and discrimination. we are quick to condemn behavior that we find morally abhorant while excusing equally offensive attitudes in ourselves. I recall myself as a young believer with long hair, preaching from a bible called the Jesus book with pictures of hyppies on the cover. My first message was so laced with colorfull metaphors that I am surprised everyone did not run out of the room. The truth is I am no more saved today than I was at that point. My first pastor was able to see beyond all the imperfections in my life and see the calling that god had for me. We need to see the world through the eyes of Christ . The truth is He loves them all and died for every single one of them
