I appreciate all of the phone calls to see if Im ok. It might be easier to just put it here on FB rather than field more calls all day and have to tell the story over and over. As I was driving home from upstate NY a deer ran out and I hit the deer. It was a very dark road and despite being my usually vigilant self, I was unable to react in time. My car got pretty well smashed up. Sadly the deer died. Im glad I said my usual prayers of protection before traveling. The state trooper who arrived to help informed me that these type of things can, and often do, end a lot worse. Apparently deers can flip up and can come through the windshield and kill the driver. The car seemed to be able to run so I got my accident report and continued my remaining 2.5 hour drive home. I guess some of the fluid hoses were damaged and my car broke down on the NY Throughway. Fortunately, the rest of the band had left much later and they were able to rescue me. :) My insurance will take care of the repairs and Ill just have to make a trip upstate to pick up my car when its fixed. Aside from the deer, which I felt bad about, no serious damage other than material stuff. These type of situations always provide a bit of perspective and cause for reflection on how quickly things could come to an end, at least in a physical sense. Redoubling my efforts to invest more time in the things that matter and a lot less time worrying about things that dont.
