I appreciate some of you are risk adverse, at the same time I am sure you spend a lot of time driving on our UK road system although that’s very risky. I think the best way to look at it is if Scotland is a business. You were a franchise of a big chain and you did well, you could run your own store within their rules and their branding but head office never came to visit and wouldn’t let you make the changes you wanted. At some point you’ve had enough and believe that you could be doing better without the franchise as you have a good business, loyal customers, great partnerships with other places and well trained staff. You own the shop anyway, you have other incomes that you can start saving away now that you don’t pay rent to the franchise. You don’t need too much of a business case because you already are running the shop day in and day out its just normal business but now you get to take your own money and keep the profit. You have to take a leap of faith in yourself that not only can you continue to run the shop but do even better, you will find that every big chain in the world once made this leap, most with little backing at some point. I watched 71 countries walk into Celtic Park last night for the dress rehearsal of the commonwealth games opening ceremony, 71 countries that once had the protection of the UK that we currently have and yet every single one is now independent. What do they have that we don’t? Simply put… they had belief in themselves.
