I arrived in Edinburgh yesterday slightly after jumah, and I was picked up by nice brother named Abdul Rahman, May Allah bless him. Ameen. We started talking and I asked him what the jumah khutbah was about that he attended and he responded with a sad face saying that he didnt understand the khutbah because it was in urdu. I get so frustrated when I hear such things. Khutbahs are meant to address the majority of people in their own language. If imams keep giving khutbahs in foreign languages dont be surprised if the youth dont come to your masjid. This post was further inspired by a blog post by Sh. Joe Bradford which will be shared below. Please do take the time to read it. Lastly, I delivered a small workshop on how to give a khutbah that I hope will help those making the effort. 1- Video: bit.ly/1tLB27i 2- Article: bit.ly/1wQrCGF
