I asked my law clerks who are Drake students how they felt about - TopicsExpress

I asked my law clerks who are Drake students how they felt about the bar and their experiences as law students. They are understandably not enthusiastic about the bar exam, which does not test on Iowa law but rather the law of nowhere. All, however, felt they had learned the most working in our office. That argues in favor of some organized mandatory mentoring relationships. I would not like to see firms use this as a source of free labor, but perhaps there is a way to assure that every law student has the advantage of some practical experience, which would be much more helpful than any multiple choice test. I also favor some kind of specialization like doctors have adopted. But that puts me in a distinct minority of my peers. Of course I am often in the distinct minority! R
