I attended a workshop entitled Food Co-operatives as Significant System Change Makers here I heard of how local food cooperatives were saving people money and boosting local economies with greater demand. Increasing local availability and accessibility improving our food security. It is a food system/policy that people can create for themselves. Increasing purchasing power and also directing its benefits back into our communities. Helping to create opportunities for young farmers/producers and those wanting to make a transition. Bulk buying not only saves money but often times saves packaging and food miles therefore healthier for our environment. :) There were 4 presentations from successful social enterprises across Canada providing proof of the positive impact they were making.
