I attended one of his town hall meetings last November. He wanted to focus on school closings. He called it just after he had been indicted on bank fraud and I had a feeling it was fake. I even went to the follow up meeting hoping it prove my theory wrong. Nope, the woman that called the second meeting never came and when he walked in the office 45 minutes late he said it was not his meeting to attend. So fake. Chicago will not be saved until voters start to judge elected officials and stop reelecting the same type of parasites. Press Release... FROM THE OFFICE OF STATE REPRESENTATIVE LA SHAWN K. FORD For Immediate Release: For More Information: October 3, 2013 State Rep. La Shawn K. Ford 773 379-4663 Ford Announces “Ban the Box” for Illinois CHICAGO – State Representative La Shawn K. Ford (D- Chicago) first introduced legislation in 2007 to “Ban the Box” on state of Illinois employment applications, and today Governor Quinn signed an Administrative Order directing state of Illinois agencies to “Ban the Box”. “Ban the Box” refers to removing the question on state employment applications which asks if the applicant has ever been convicted of a felony. “Many people are shut out of job opportunities when they must reveal on a job application that they have been convicted of a felony,” said Ford. “Many of these job applications are discarded before the person even has a chance to show their skills and abilities or even explain what happened when they were convicted. Many organizations joined the effort to “Ban the Box” when I first introduced the legislation in 2007, and this idea was the first idea that I ran on before I was elected to the General Assembly in 2006,” said Ford. “That legislation was passed by both the House and the Senate, but was vetoed by the governor, but the need to reduce recidivism and reduce the amount we spend on corrections has increased, so we kept introducing the legislation in each following General Assembly,” said Ford. “I applaud Governor Quinn and his staff for their efforts to move this forward and for issuing this directive to all state agencies to “Ban the Box” for state hiring. We should recognize Safer Foundation, Heartland Alliance and state Representative Mary E. Flowers for their unwavering support for this initiative. Today is a new day for greater opportunities, and we hope that this action will lead the way so private companies will also “Ban the Box” on their employment applications,” said Ford.
