I attended the closing ceremony of the 5th Melanesian Culture and Arts festival and had this to say: Cultural performance ought to be sacred and seen as an institution that teaches and harnesses people of each respective cultural societies. Culture becomes alive and meaningful when the performers and actors connect themselves. With this view, some performers and actors demonstrate cultural acts and performances purely with the intention to please and arouse the audience, dignitaries and other participating wantoks from Melanesia. if this is the view then they have compromised their way of life.
