I awaken to cotton candy skies and the sweet silence of 7am on a Sunday before the city turns on its lights. Gazing out at the vastness of this ocean before me, I am reminded of the everlasting and ever-present love this Earth has to share. Gaze out, youll feel it there, until you finally gaze in, noticing its home all along. Theres something magical about the way the earth feels bright early in the morning before the cappuccino machines press play, as the light of the sun hits my eyes preceding the light of my iPhone5. It feels like a real feminine and vulnerable time of day; innocent and real. The Earth says, Ok, my light is coming up. Take me. Breathe me. Love me. Here I am again. Have me as I am! So, I listen. I listen to the way Gaia speaks and the way she whispers secrets only those with grateful hearts can hear. I listen to the lightly forced way each wave crashes upon the sand, reminding me of the endless opportunities to give, speak, have, share…every other second. I listen to the Earth’s people- their vacationing cries in dream land wishing their lives were different, better, in some way. I see a loud, long machine in the colored sky, whisking people away to half-assed business meetings and half-present family gatherings. This seems to take my fixation of ever-present love farther away from me. But then a flock of birds fly, yelp, and take my eyes and my mind from the plane exhaust up above. This image replays again and again in a sky from my dreams. Plane. Bird. Plane. Bird. Plane. Bird. Plane. Bird. Here’s the balance, yet again, in a movie right before my eyes. of the material and the natural of the man-made and the man of the disease and the cure of the false security and the truth. They say to “tune out” the societal world sometimes in yoga class to release stress. That just seems utterly fake to me. It’s here. That world. It’s happening. And it’s us. To me, there’s no shutting it off. But there is a chance, an opportunity, and a blessing to instead “tune in.” Tune in to something far greater and grander than self. Tune in to the majestic up above and the grounding down below. Tune in to what’s really real. So, I tune in. I listen. And I encourage you to as well. I tune in to the way Gaia speaks. I tune in to the way she whispers; to the way she whispers secrets only those with grateful hearts can hear.
