I become dismayed when people discard books. Books are valuable (at least I think they are). Mine are about 80% poetry, 10% reference, and 10% fiction. Here are two shots of my library (with himself in it). The first is a screen capture from the TV Ontario documentary shot by Liane Kotler for the 2010 Big Ideas Best Lecturer Competition (alas, didnt quite win) and the other is taken by Sebastian Hergott during a visit shortly before I fell ill one winter with the Swine Flu (not pleasant). These are two of the three aisles in library. I also have my desk in there Katie McVeggie Meyer is going to help me shelve the books this week in her spare time. Writers have written about libraries, but mine has not been noticed yet. The room also contains my desk, reading chair, a long desk for grading, the kitchen table my mother had her tonsils out on when she was five years old, and a church pulpit someone was getting rid of that I now use as a dictionary stand. Over my computer I have a picture (watercolour) of Daisy, my dog. The white mask at the end of the row in the first picture is a copy of Dantes death mask. The original is in Naples. And never throw away a book of poems even if you dont like it. When you return to it you will find something worthwhile.
