I began my poetry talk tonight with this poem... MY HISTORY I cannot separate my history into American History Jewish History Womens History European History Maryland History I am who I am because of my mothers history, my fathers history, my grandparents histories, my stepmothers history, my stepfathers history, my husbands history, my teachers and professors sense of history. I am who I am because of blessings and curses and luck I am who I am because of pogroms and murders and dreams and whims, and carefully planned decisions, and split second decisions, and last minute decisions. I am who I am because of anti-semitism, and Tolerance, and Assimilation, and Celebration. I am who I am because of ancestors who held onto the past and because of ancestors who turned away from it I am who I am because of lawyers, and doctors and rabbis and lawmakers I am who I am because I am one little strand in the grandeur of history I am who I am Who are you? by Jennifer Rudick Zunikoff on July 9th, 2014
