I believe I have figured something out about America and the - TopicsExpress

I believe I have figured something out about America and the discourse that we have today. After much thought and questioning why we are the way we are (currently), I have realized that we no longer think of each other as family. In your family, you have mom, dad, brothers, sisters, sons, daughters and all those strange cousins. If your brother does something that bothers you, you can insult, torture, beat, tell mom or whatever you do to one another. HOWEVER, if someone ELSE thats NOT family tries to hurt your brother, youll hop right in the fight with him to take down the person who hurt him. We dont have that feeling for one another. The media has us believing that its Us versus THEM where the Them is anyone who doesnt believe exactly as we do. The media would have us to believe that if we give on any point, that we have simply lost the whole war. That is not how this country was founded. These were brothers and sisters, working together for the common good. When there were differences, often they fought, but they put the needs of the country above the needs of their own. Ill give an example of the way I believe we should be. John P Marshall, the owner of Back Alley Arms across the street from me, is not terribly fond of our current administration. I believe that the current administration is doing the best job it can in the current media frenzy and that no one could stand up to the minute-by-minute scrutiny that they face. We insult one another, argue points, but I have NO doubt in my mind that if ANYONE tried to harm me, he would be standing on my doorstep, probably armed to the teeth, ready to defend me. Can you say that about friends that are on the other side of the political spectrum? Or would you be glad that they are out of the way because one less member of the opposite party would make the country better? Ill admin, if Rush Limbaugh were facing a rushing onslaught of bulls, I would have a moment of hesitation! But I believe I would still hop in and try to save him. Its the right thing to do. If we, as a country, could once again realize that the person on the opposite side of the political spectrum is still an American, and still our brother or sister, and that working together, finding our common bond is what made this country great in the first place, then I believe we could regain that love for one another that we have lost. Its not about always being right, its about being honest and about finding out what the common good will be. We will never agree on everything. Thats not what were about. But STARTING with How are we alike instead of How are we different would be a GREAT way to launch the new year. I love you all and care very much for my brothers and sisters in Christ as well as my brothers and sisters in America. I wish all of you from here on out to have the blessing of wisdom and prosperity. With wisdom comes the knowledge that we can do things better together than apart. With taking that action comes prosperity. May God bless you all.
