I believe New SLPP , a strong independent and tireless Kono Global Voices to be the answer for Kono affliction . Koroma is bringing late ,less development and division among Kono descendant. With all the wealth extracting from Kono ,only a Power Generator we are receiving lately as a rewards, and a delayed road project, that is taking forever ,after Makeni and other Northern Cities have been thoroughly constructed .SLPP under Kabba had a very good plan for Kono development,it was only delayed because of the work in ending the Civil War,start of immediate reconstruction of the entire country of basic services and other distractions in developing our democracy to where it is today. We could never have gotten to where we are today if it were APC that were in power during the ending of the civil war. Why many people are not seeing the good work of the SLPP party, it was the time of their rule. We must not forget to note that the civil war came first of all because of maltreatment of the country by the APC. I still have the blueprints of the SLPP development plan for the entire Sierra Leone but it was all delayed because of the ending of the civil war and many things to do in developing a young democracy. My belief is all Kono Descendant have to unite ,love each other without no tribal sentiment and speak with one strong voice to stop all the Illegal Mining by these Big Companies and negotiate for better mining terms in exchange for our Natural Resources.APC is not doing much for Kono. All they engage in doing is creating division.Divide and Conquer. The current APC is the most tribalistic and nepotistic government we have had lately Tony Konomanyi Today His Excellency, President Ernest Bai Koroma came to Kono to check on progress in our fight against Ebola and also switch on the New National Power Authoritys Electricity Generators, effectively bringing power to homes and businesses in Koidu city for the first time in over 40 yrs It must be clear to all but the most partisan of observers that this government has achieved more in its 7 yrs than the SLPP achieved in its entire 11 yrs of government, especially in Kono. I am not for any political party so I deal only with the facts as I see them. Thank you Mr President for starting work on the Kono to Makeni highway and the Koidu city municipal roads too, Im sure I share the sentiments of most Kono citizens by saying we are grateful for these developments. But really, thank you? For doing the very least of the jobs we elected you into office for and 7yrs late at that? If Im to speak out against regionalism, tribalism, cronyism and corruption then I must look beyond what is being done for Kono alone. I must address the malaise in government that has conditioned Sierra Leoneans into accepting that the provision of basic amenities by our government is a cause for jubilation and pomp. We cannot give our politicians a congratulatory pat on the back for attempting to provide us with such basics like electricity , good roads and clean running water supply. I say attempting because as most Sierra Leoneans know, promises from politicians count for nothing here; we wait until delivery. For a small country, we are blessed with abundant natural mineral wealth, yet we rely on international donors for most infrastructural development and our politicians are experts at working the international donor circuit with their begging bowls. Enough already! But still we say thank you Mr President and thank you to all our politicians. Although we are the most corrupt nation on earth and we are bottom of the class in healthcare provision, access to clean water and education , we feel obliged to thank you all the same. The fact that Sierra Leoneans are jubilant over your delivery of the basics is indicative of how an entire nation has been conditioned into accepting corruption and poverty as standard. My fellow citizens, education, clean water supply, good roads and electricity are the very least that any elected government must provide its people. What is in effect happening in Sierra Leone today is that we are being thankful for our politicians pitying us the scraps of our national wealth. We are thankful that were being robbed of the family silver but spared some stale bread. We are thankful that we have a semblance of democracy in Sierra Leone, never mind that most of the conditions of a democratic nation are not being delivered by our politicians. Mr President, we are thankful that youve started to deliver on you election promises to Kono ,with only 3yrs of your presidency left and 7yrs late. That my fellow citizens is the deplorable state of affairs in Sierra Leone. That Ernest Bai Koroma, arguably our nations best post war leader is still, if judged by international standards, a failure. But we are thankful that he has been a step in the right direction, even if a small step. So, what are our options? The SLPP? I say emphatically NO, they are notorious for regionalism and nepotism. The APC? Judge for yourself. As for me, Ill hope for new blood , in either of the above mentioned parties but to be honest I doubt that will help change a diseased political system in Sierra Leone. I say we need a complete overhaul, a whole new movement that will sweep the nation and deliver a just and durable change through the ballot box. Nat Dawondeh ::Brother Tony I absolutely agree with you that what has happened to our Republic is a disgrace when our successive governments are measured against international or even remotely against some democracies in Africa. Sierra Leone with all her natural resources and great human potentials deserve far better than what we are getting and like you said, an alternative to our current two major political parties is needed but that in itself is a wishful thinking. So what are the alternatives; I say the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP). Regionalism and nepotism I say can be remedied with strong statutory and constitutional initiatives but incompetence, unfettered corruption and lack of good governance skills is a disaster for any government or party in power. Yes, brother Tony there is tremendous need for educating our people about what the true functions of our elected representatives are. Should they know that good health care, good roads, good educational standards and institutions, good adequate water supply, dependable electricity, and freedom of speech and assembly are privileges accorded to them by their government or rights? Brother Tony Konomanyi, it is unfortunate that you think the best options for Kono and Sierra Leone is the APC. I beg to differ with you my brother. 27 years of APCs undemocratic rule plunged our country into 11 years of brutal civil war which led to the demise of thousands of our people and nation. SLPP president Kabbah came in to end and reestablish democracy: rebuilt all the institutions of democracy, health centers all over the country, rebuilt all the burnt down educational institutions, ended the war and brought back all our fellow citizens that were living in substandard conditions in neighboring countries. You will agree with me that all this was done with a time frame of 6 years since president Kabbah was overthrown twice and had to run the state of the countries affairs in exile. I hate to play politics with what is going on with the Ebola crisis but the APC government’ or president Koroma’s handling of the initial outbreak was less than desired. Look at where we are today, if you ask me; I prefer the alternative because this is a crisis prone party and trust me our country and people deserve better days. Finally, I am glad that the president turned on the light in Kono today, now you can put your generator away. By the way, did he travel by road or flew in? You ask what road?
