I believe Scotland has no choice but to separate. You cannot have - TopicsExpress

I believe Scotland has no choice but to separate. You cannot have a country divided in its core values about sovereignty. That is not a country, it is little more than an annex, or a warehouse state, as Canada has so often been for the US and other countries. The fact that there are Scottish people who think they should maintain the lopsided relationship with England is like a person with Stockholm syndrome trying to help their kidnapper. Any country forcibly subsumed, or invaded by another country has had its inalienable right to self-determination stolen. Whether it is stolen for a decade, or a few centuries speaks only to how long their native right to self-government has been postponed, not to the illegality of the initial crime. It follows then that all native resources must be turned over as it represents the base wealth of the denizens of that land. Furthermore, it is only logical that reparations by the offending nation must be made as was the case for Germany and other countries following WWII. The passing of time only increases the difficulties which resumption of self-rule will mean for those who attempt it, so IF the trespassing country is to consider itself a just society, then all reasonable support must be given to aid the re-fledgling nation. When emotion is taken out of the equation it is clear that at some point a thwarted nation must be allowed to resume its natural course for good or ill. jmo
