I believe forgiveness of a deep wound takes time. Just as a wound - TopicsExpress

I believe forgiveness of a deep wound takes time. Just as a wound that is deep must heal from the inside and takes time and careful tending, so does a deep wound to the heart or spirit. I believe in distancing myself from the offender and allowing my raw, wounded emotions some time and self-nurture, to promote the beginning of healing. Only then can I return to the offender and truly forgive them, not allowing them to wound me again. I have found this is the only way to prevent hardness from setting in, causing me to deflect those negative feelings toward innocent parties, simply because I have allowed myself to become jaded and bitter. If we dont heal our wounds properly, we will vent our negative emotions on the next unsuspecting person that enters the picture. This is so different from wallowing in self-pity or continuing to allow the wound to fester, in fact, it is opposite. It is being proactive in assuring the heart remains pliant and receptive, but learning to guard against painful attacks in the future. It is the only way I have found to keep my heart open, but resilient, simultaneously.
