I believe that this Assistant Police Commissioner just got owned! Let me preface my following comments with: I not only respect but adore the work state and federal law enforcement does. In my experience, apart from a slight attitude problem, police are amazing at what they do and I would trust them with my protection and safety because they do a job that so complex and detailed that I consider them heroes in everything they do. *begin rant* Arent witnesses brought before a royal commission provided time to prepare? For someone in such a high position in the Police Force is he that inexperienced (or inept) to know that he would be questioned about the links his intelligence has been able to acquire between the alleged illegal behaviour of individuals and union activities? Perhaps he was caught off guard. Perhaps he didnt understand he was asked to appear at the RC into union governance and corruption. Perhaps he was making assumptions based on anecdotal evidence... Is this really how Police are expected to act/behave when asked to give evidence? What about other crimes and channels of official enquiry such as rape, murder or domestic violence? Even if I could excuse the lack of preparation (which I cant), what I cant excuse is the total lack of respect suspects and victims are given by this type of behaviour! Suspects deserve concrete evidence to respond to, and victims deserve to know that the police will pursue ALL avenues to acquire concrete evidence which will support a conviction. How often does this happen? That a very senior police officer relies on inaccurate intelligence used at formal enquiries and legal proceedings. Could this (bad behaviour) be used to have other serious legal cases reviewed/quashed based on evidence arising from the same intelligence unit or other police officers, including him, which could then in turn release dangerous offenders, or those guilty of apathy to their crimes, onto the street and our community. *end rant*
