I bet the words before all right, good night were something like: Contacting Ho-Chi-Minh Centre on 128 point 5, Malaysian 370 all right, good night By ignoring the frequency/FIR handover stuff, the media can make the last 4 words sound more sinister/sensational. smh.au/world/missing-malaysian-airlines-jet-the-last-words-heard-from-the-crew-20140312-34mqg.html#ixzz2vmxv1OK2 *Missing Malaysian Airlines jet: The last words heard from the crew* All right, good night. These were the last words from the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370, revealed for the first time at a meeting in Beijing on Wednesday between the Malaysian government and Chinese relatives. The flight then disappeared from radar screens, according to Malaysias civil aviation officials... A Frequency/FIR handover occurs when an aircraft leaves one region (say, the area covered by Malaysian Air Traffic Control) to enter another (say, Vietnamese Air Traffic Control) at which point they tune to a different radio frequency, and start talking to new controllers located in a different area/country. Youd normally say good bie to the controllers you wont be talking to anymore before you say hello to the new controllers because not being rude is nice sometimes. The only requirement is to read back the frequency change, but Id say most times, theres an extra little Good Day Good Night See ya on the end there even though its not required. Example: ATC: Airline123 Contact Different Country Control on 132.50 Pilot: Contacting Different Country on 132.50 (not necessary but usually said after the required stuff) Bie bie/have a nice day/thank you/good day/good night/see ya etc.
