I bought a tablet of something called Aquapel off Amazon for my windshield. Kinda like rain-x but supposed to be stronger and last longer. Washed the windshield with a scrubee sponge and soap and water. Used glass cleaner. Broke the applicator and squeezed the contents onto the windshield and smeared it with the applicator pad. Then cleaned off excess with a paper towel. When I got north of Wichita it started raining pretty hard. Barely had to use the wipers as it all beaded up and moved to the side. I was also pretty impressed with the fact that usually the area outside your wiper arc has dried water spots and makes your windshield reflect light. Had that problem with rain-x all the time. Well once my windshield dried there were ZERO dried water spots. My windshield is crystal clear corner to corner, left to right and top to bottom. No streaking, no hazing. I do have a single arc line on both sides from the wipers but aside from that its clear and clean. Stuff is a bit expensive, $9 a tablet. One did my entire windshield but it was barely enough. Id recommend two as one is recommended for a car windshield. this is good stuff.
