I calculate a $138 shortfall in my share of road repairs. I would gladly pay a higher gas tax ($0.54) to incent myself and others to move to non-petroleum based fuels/vehicles. Heres the breakdown: $1069 (cost for road repairs in the Triangle per driver) - $332 Motor Fuel Tax [$0.376/gal x (15,000 miles/year/17 mpg)] - $44 Safety & Emissions inspection fees - $155 Highway Use Tax (annual property tax - $33 annual tag fee - $100 (Est. repair parts Sales tax in 2013) - 25% Federal Funding. All information but the Sales tax is available online. I wonder if they will start charging tax on MPGe soon? Probably. Was it 2001 when Easley unlawfully raided the protected NC Highway Trust Fund? Hmmm
