I called the police (who were really nice) to explain that, per Agriculture and Markets representative this morning, they must enforce the Ag and Markets Law. Unfortunately, they do not know about it. We have to contact the Mayor and the Police Commissioner and let them know that a) the officers must be informed that they must enforce the Ag and Markets law and b) since NYPD has taken over the job of responding to animal cruelty and neglect (in January of 2014) and not many officers have been trained, yet, they MUST create a program to teach ALL officers how to respond to animal (all species) complaints. The sergeant showed up and, I have to say, all the officers was lovely. They were very supportive and showed compassion when the person in charge asked me if Id go away if he gave me the last 11 chickens. I said yes. : ) They are now being cared for and they will go to sanctuaries.
