I came across a brother that said to me that he didnt think groups - TopicsExpress

I came across a brother that said to me that he didnt think groups in islam were such a good thing, and explained that ALL groups fall into some deviant sect and cited the hadith of the 72 sects. He proclaimed that he didnt associate to any group himself and said that he didnt call to any group but rather only to islam. So I asked him there are muslim burial services that have emerged in this city as a result of a need in fulfilling a fard. As we know burying someone takes a lot of people and its near enough impossible for one person to do it alone. So would you regard them as a deviant sect? Would you say that these group of Muslims who have come together to fulfil a fard is not a good thing? He said no, they are doing a good thing. I further asked him, obviously in any act of worship there requires a method to carry out the act of worship which requires ijtihad. One burial service may hold a different ijtihad to another burial service. Is it wrong to have two burial services? He conceded and said no its not wrong. Through the example above I demonstrated that his position isnt as black and white as he first thought. I then conveyed to him that in the 40 hadith of imam nawawi, he explains that the 72 sects the hadith is referring to who are destined for the hell fire, will reside there for eternity. So i asked him are you suggesting that any single Muslim who associates himself with an organisation is destined for the hell fire? He got scared because I dont think the person that I was speaking to knew this. In a panic he said no he did not say that. I further explained that the wording in the hadith used is firkah, I.e to break apart from the whole. People who set up a burial service havent broken apart from the whole but rather are from the whole serving the whole. From the body language of the brother it appeared he agreed to what I was saying. (I gave the example of the burial service in hope that he would be able to apply the principles I taught him to other organisations.) I then quoted the ayah: وَلْتَكُن مِّنكُمْ أُمَّةٌ يَدْعُونَ إِلَى الْخَيْرِ وَيَأْمُرُونَ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَيَنْهَوْنَ عَنِ الْمُنكَرِ ۚ وَأُولَـٰئِكَ هُمُ الْمُفْلِحُونَ ﴿١٠٤﴾ And let there rise from you a group(s) inviting to [all that is] good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong, and those will be the successful. Surah al Imran verse 104. I explained when the ayah in the quran refers to an ummah, it has a tanween at the end which shows that the group the ayah is instructing to rise isnt definite I.e doesnt say al ummah I.e the ummah, but rather an ummah. Meaning that there can be more than one group of people who rise. From this ayah it demonstrates that Allah is commanding people to form a group to enjoin the good and forbid the evil. So the brothers initial remarks were contradicting what Allah had instructed. By Altafkeer Fe Al-Islam
