I came across this and wanted to share with everyone here. This is actually something that goes on all across the nation, ham radio (also known as amateur radio) isnt just for casual chatting. Ham radio has saved many lives while assisting with recovery from disasters (Katrina hurricane, Joplin tornado, Earthquakes, and many other natural disasters). When main communications go down (internet, cell phones, land line phones, etc), ham radios keep on ticking. Ham radio is decentralized, meaning there is no network that must be operational to keep these radios talking. The ham radio network is comprised of individual operators and their equipment. The local hospitals and local government all cooperate with ham radio operators and have stations set up ready to go if needed. The hospital radios, and Emergency Operations Center radios are tested regularly. Should the need arise there are many ham radio operators in the area that are more than willing to volunteer their time, and equipment to assist as a backup line of communication. Admin W
