I came back on FB for a stint primarily to support/promote our gorgeous Air Canada gals who are doing a terrific job raising money in the fight against cancer. (see link below) Sadly, I just found out my family has been hit by this horrible disease once again. Many of you know it claimed my sister Amy 5 years ago, and now the PU and I are suffering the shock of bad biopsies - we hope we caught it soon enough to contain, but my Dad will be facing the usual barrage of tests, c-scans... to determine type, primary location, stage etc. It is sad to say, but no family escapes untouched by this shitty disease. It affects us all. And like all families, the PU and I face this together, with positive thoughts, realism, optimism and strength. I am sharing this news, not to dump my personal life on FB or to solicit sympathy, but to illustrate how important it is to continue the funding for research and most specifically to highlight the need for regular tests. My family may escape this relatively intact this time if we are lucky, primarily because of early detection. So men - get your smears and colonoscopies if you are over 50, ladies get your mammograms!
