I came back tonight from Sister Anns funeral grateful for the chance to lay my weary eyes on a LOT of people I love very much. Yesterday, my Friend, John Stephenson shared a piece of his childhood and his Dads philosophy that I instantly took to heart and that brought Ann to my mind. The purpose of our lives taught James Clyde Stephenson, is to help create twenty five righteous people who will, in turn, help to create twenty five other righteous people. As I sat in the back pew at St. Michaels tonight, I looked around at the gathering that came together in Anns honor - every seat in every pew was filled with a person who knew that Ann truly loved them and every single one of us was influenced by her dedication, passion, humor, joy, respect and straight forwardness. Her close Friend and co-ministry team member, Sister Joyce Flowers, tells us that Sister Ann exhorts us all to pay attention! That means you say Thank you, obviously, and you say, I love you, every once in a while...But Pay Attention means, What are the things I have been missing, and where can I stand in and help? Let us ponder these words, and know these are Anns messages to all of us to ACT and make PEACE... in our families, in our workplaces, and in our world. (To which I can only add, Amen!)
