I came to yoga purely for the appeal of the physical fitness and toning of my body. Id been a runner for years but had nagging little injuries, lack of upper body strength and zero flexibility. My entire life, any physical activity has always been a competition - even with running Id compete with myself, pushing myself to go longer and faster, paying little attention to the warning signs. Then I came to yoga, assumed postures and shapes which bent my body and soul in places theyd never been bent before. Difficult feelings rose to the surface, limitations became apparent. Frustrations and that arrrrghhh-feeling dominated. As time passed I realised yoga didnt do that to me. I did, my thinking did. I assumed a shape my body wasnt ready for just as Ive always run longer, faster before I was ready. No surprise the injuries kept creeping up on me, eh? I love this excerpt - it applies no only to yoga but to many things in life: Whatever pain you are feeling from yoga, It is caused by you. It is caused by your attitude. It is caused by your actions. It is caused by your interpretation of the shape. It is caused by your thoughts.... When you stop blaming yoga and do the inner work...Your life will change Think about it, it makes a lot of sense, no? ashtangapictureproject/the-yoga-is-not-the-problem/
