I can attest to the fact that many who have passed beyond an ability to respond to their fellow human beings can and will respond to the presence of a dog. In the end, try as we may and try as we must, there is very little we can do for our fellow man because, for the most part, our ills are self inflicted; however, we can have a profound effect on the life of a dog with some assurance that the favor will be returned. Deserving nothing but pain and damnation, we are saved by grace and by grace alone.
