I can certainly see the beauty in the visual of these lanterns, but they have always bothered me in regard to the littering, possible harm to animals and certainly the fire hazard component. This article is from the UK, but the impact of releasing these lanterns during a wedding or memorial is real and hopefully people will begin to realize this and cease the practice. (Along with the horrible practice of ballon releases, which are also litter and cause harm to wildlife). This is a great article that may help spread awareness.
