I can honestly say that the last 24 hours celebrating my birthday - TopicsExpress

I can honestly say that the last 24 hours celebrating my birthday have been one hell of a roller coaster ride. Last night I got to hang out with some great friends and relax. Tonight I got to hang out with some great friends again at broomball. It was among the hardest things Ive ever had to do. One of the things that I feel like I have partially mastered as a parent is the art of justification. I dont even need the Because I said so. I can explain to the boys the reason behind our decisions. They might not agree but the reasoning is typically clear. This past week I have really struggled with reason and justification. I knew tonight was going to suck. I was right. I knew my friends would make it suck less. They did. This past week Ive spent a lot of time reading great memories from everyone on the passing of our friend Fred Rauch. I am the guy that you look to for the funny quote. I am the guy that has the smart ass remark. I would much rather throttle someone than think of a calm way of working through it. This week has left me with no funny. No smart ass remark. There is nobody to throttle. There is no reason or justification for the last week. Everyone has had a hole ripped out of them this week. We were blessed to have had Fred enter our lives. The stories and memories we are left with will leave a permanent imprint on our lives. Hopefully you become a better parent, sibling and friend based on those memories. Tomorrow when you leave for work take that extra second. Life has no reason or justification. That has been made clear to all of us this week. RIP Fred.
