I can in no way take credit for this ...I read it in my hometown newspaper today...but I find it very worthy of sharing... A Prayer for 2014 Lord, youve known me for a long time. You know me better than I know myself. You know that each day Im growing older and the day is fast approaching when I will be very old. Please keep me from the habit of thinking I must say something on every subject and every occasion. Release me from trying to straighten out everyone elses affairs. Make me thoughtful, but not moody. Helpful, but not intrusive. Ive a certain amount of knowledge to share. Please give me a few friends or even one friend, who at the end of my life, recognizes and forgives the knowledge I lack. Keep my tongue free from the recital of endless details. Seal my lips on my aches and pains. They increase daily and the need to speak of them becomes almost a compulsion for me. Please give me the strength to keep them to myself. I ask for grace enough to listen to the retelling of others afflictions and to be able to endure them with patience. I would like to have an improved memory, but Ill settle for humility and an ability to capitulate when my memory clashes with the memories of others. Teach me the glorious lesson that on many occasions, even I may be mistaken. Help me lay aside the melancholy burden that I am always right. Keep me reasonably kind. Ive never aspired to be a saint as such people may be difficult to live with. On the other hand, an embittered old person is a burden on many. Please free me from that fate. Please, give me the ability to see good in unlikely places and talents in unexpected people. And give me the grace to tell them so, dear Lord. Please give me joy, patience, self restraint and peace of mind. Remind me often that I find these great gifts by depending on you and not on my own efforts. Author Unknown
