I can no longer hold back from criticizing the ALS Ice Bucket - TopicsExpress

I can no longer hold back from criticizing the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge that has been flying around for the past few days. Wasting a precious resource so that you don’t have to donate $100, when there are people in the world that don’t have daily access to the water you just dumped on the floor, is ridiculous and ridiculing. Most of the people posting ice bucket videos of themselves on social media forget about the charity altogether. The ice-drenching is the alternative to contributing actual money. It is amazing that many people HAVE donated. REGARDLESS, a lot of the people are probably spending more money on ice and water than on ALS research. The reason people are doing it is because they DONT WANT to pay $100. What kind of awareness is this? Hello, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (wait, did I even mention the disease at all in my video?) exists and we should fund research regarding it, but Im not going to - instead Im just going to drench myself with a resource that millions dont have access to. Only TWO of the many videos Ive seen contain any information about the disease, why the money is needed or how it will be used. This is not raising awareness, this is just posting a video of yourself doing something silly and pulling likes from it. If you really care about donating to ALS research and treatment, only posting a video with no solid background info and no donation will do NOTHING. Instead, please go here and donate to your hearts content and actually make a difference: alsa.org/donate/ Thats all.
