I can see why Sony would like to expand their franchise because Fox & especially Marvel have so much to work with...but Spider-Mans characters are really tied into him...or they are before they go their own way so this feels a bit misguided. It would be different if they had more Marvel Universe to play with but they dont. Fox is expanding the X-Men movie-verse (which already has tons of spin-off-able characters galore) to include Fantastic Four and other X titles (X-Force is in the works). Marvel has more characters than they can cover in a single year (or decade), though they have more success than Sony and Fox combined and 2 or 3 times the titles coming out or in development. Im not THAT upset that Marvel doesnt have X-Men or Spider-Man, but its clear that thats where they belong.
