I cannot believe I forgot to post this here...the place where my activism started. Thank you so much to this fabulous community for allowing me to spend almost 5 years of my life supporting equality through Volunteering, running Triangle Speakers, and running STRANGE. ________________________________________ For the last several years, I got the chance to be a real life superhero. I changed many lives and even saved a few. I met Senators, Assemblypeople, Superintendents, Judges, and even Dustin Lance Black. I attended the largest LGBT conference in the US in Atlanta and attended some incredible trainings here in California as well. I was nominated for an award for my support for LGBT youth and my name became known as an advocate for LGBT youth. Google Shaun Ordinario (its kinda cool). I will never forget 2013’s Queer Youth Leadership Awards. Each awardee credited me in their speeches and one went so far as to share with over 300 people that she wanted to be me when she grows up. I smile at the times I’ve showed up at schools and got run down by a group of students yelling, “Shaun!!! Group hug!” I could right a mini series full of wonderful experiences I have had doing this work. In the words of Spiderman’s Uncle, “With great power, comes great responsibility…” The demands of the position are such that they take a toll on the program coordinator and I have burnt out. My first mentor warned me of this and I shrugged my shoulders and said, that could never happen to me. Well, I burnt out. Monday, I gave my two weeks notice with Encompass. I am not certain what is next, but for now, I need to take some time to focus on me and my family. I will consider each like a huge hug. With love, Shaun
