I cannot, just CAN NOT understand why anyone would cremate their loved ones and keep the ashes in some pot someplace. The whole point of cremation - in Hinduism - is that there isnt and there shouldnt be anything left to hold on to - the aatma has left, and the body does not - should not - exist, either, for the creature that did exist? Lives on in her/his deeds and in memories. As one whose racial memory, genes and local collective subconscious have ever held cremation to be the only acceptable funerary rite, I dont comprehend the concept of complete decimation of someones body AND the preservation of their ashy remains
