I cannot stand BS by commercial interests when stating something (that penalises another party) makes them more "competitive"! Obviously they are not competitive. Their costs make them less competitive -for whatever reason. In this case it is the Aussie GST. They want consumers to have to pay GST on goods purchased overseas for totals starting at $20 (current threshold is $1k). I agree there is an issue BUT that is the nature of globalisation. Hawke chose to remove many tariffs to create "a level playing field". Did not work cos other nations kept theirs.
