I cannot stop thinking about Matts Uncle Sam & what he said as we - TopicsExpress

I cannot stop thinking about Matts Uncle Sam & what he said as we were leaving the nursing home today. He told Bo, If I ever get out of this place well go fishing. My eyes welled up, and I struggled to keep it together. I finally lost it just now after rocking Ann Wallace to sleep & thinking about how shell get old, too, one day. God broke my heart a long time ago for the elderly & those who care for them, but He reminded me of it today. Id grown complacent, removed from the reality of what it means to reach the end of life. That place tore me up. All those drooping heads & withered, stooped bodies lined up in wheelchairs in front of a tv watching a show most of them probably werent even aware of. One old black woman was clutching a baby doll. As we walked down the halls I caught glimpses, through opened doors, of other sad vignettes. And I wondered how the people who work there daily dont just run screaming into the night from despair. I vow to start praying especially for nursing home employees that God would equip them continually physically, emotionally, mentally & spiritually with whatever is necessary to serve those patients with gentleness, reverence & love. And Ill try, in the meantime, to glean some comfort from 2 Corinthians 5: For we know that if our earthly house, this tent, is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For in this we groan, earnestly desiring to be clothed with our habitation which is from heaven, if indeed, having been clothed, we shall not be found naked. For we who are in this tent groan, being burdened, not because we want to be unclothed, but further clothed, that mortality may be swallowed up by life. Now He who has prepared us for this very thing is God, who also has given us the Spirit as a guarantee. So we are always confident, knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord. For we walk by faith, not by sight. We are confident, yes, well pleased rather to be absent from the body and to be present with the Lord.
