I cant be the only person in America who has actually read the Quran, but sometimes it feels like it when one of these horrendous attacks occur. The Quran (9:29) says, Fight those who believe not in Allah, nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the Religion of Truth, from among the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya [tax] with willing submission and feel themselves subdued. (King Fahd Holy Quran, official translation) As long as countries around the world continue to try to ignore, if not evade, the real problem, it will not be possible to begin to actually confront and resolve it. Note bene: with willing submission and feel themselves subdued is the official Saudi translation into modern English. Charlie was not *willing* to submit but heroically chose even to die to remain the born joker he apparently was. After the great jurists who practiced and practice *itjihad*, a form of moderate interpretation of the Quran, the great poets of Indias past, and elsewhere, have always known the best way to deal with these problems, global now, is a Journey into the Soul... which is universal and the very definition of Love.
