I cant believe Im writing this post, but I have to... So, yesterday on my page I had to do something Ive never had to do before and hoped I would never have to do. I love you guys and think of you as my friends, but there always has to be that one person that comes along and rocks the boat. This person has been banned from this page. I will not post their name, but I wanted to give an explanation so that you guys would know whats been going on. This person first liked my page in September. They also friended my personal page. I accepted. Im immediately asked to mail swag to this person. Now guys, authors pay for bookmarks and postcards and all that crap. Then we give it away for FREE. And have to pay for mailing. Thats all at cost to us. Weeks go by of this person asking for swag several times from me, even after I explained everything and told them they could enter giveaways on my page since I have them all the time OR buy it from my website since I sell it there for people that dont like to enter giveaways and want bits and pieces of everything. I finally unfriended this person because it became so ridiculous. In fact, they even messaged another author and asked if that author would send them MY swag, because this author was hosting a giveaway where my swag was featured. I know for a fact that this same person has begged other authors for swag. Last night this person asked me to send them a signed copy of Saving Tatum (free of course). Im going to explain something that I think you all already know, but in case you dont, now you will. Authors dont get their books for free. I have to pay to have them printed. Since they asked for a free copy of Saving Tatum Ill use that in my example here. It costs me $6.97 to print ONE copy of Saving Tatum. ONE. That price does not include shipping or tax. Add that in and its approximately $12. Okay, so if I give that away to someone within the U.S. thats another $4 for shipping bringing my cost to $16. If it was an international mailing my cost would be more like $32-42. That right there is why authors arent giving away as many paperbacks and why theyve cut back on International mailing. It isnt to be mean. We love all of you. Its because the money comes out of our pocket and we have bills to pay. Ive never had this problem before and I hope to never have it again and I really dont think we will, because you guys are awesome. ;)
