I cant believe that I didnt post an announcement earlier this week... weve been cutting brush with chainsaws, chipping branches, and getting ready to haul away illegally dumped trash... the announcement is that nearly 6 years after beginning negotiations to purchase and repurpose surplus property from the city of Detroit, we completed our first purchase under our development agreement with the city. We purchased 1,350 vacant parcels. We cleaned and mowed these parcels last summer. Now we are in the process of clearing brush and trash from alleys and fencerows. Next, we will purchase and demolish 50 dangerous structures. We have ordered 15,000 trees to plant in spring, 2014. Our neighbors are thrilled with the transformation. Their excitement and appreciation motivates us. Thank you for supporting and encouraging us along the way. Also thanks to leaders within Detroit government, and staff of Detroit departments for helping us complete this transformative agreement. More photos of our work to follow in coming posts.
