I cant help but be inspired by some of the many messages and emails of support I have received from viewers after Turnbulls decision to dump CH31, and also after winning our award. This is definitely one of the best so far, sent to Mr Turnbull and ccd to me from Neil in Geelong and posted here with his permission: Amen to that Neil! *PS I Love the bit about the 7 existing Garbage dump channels (referring to the extra channels and shopping channels) two of which have now for some time offered to screen BTD in between their infomercials for soup makers and robot vacuum cleaners. Yeah right! While your main channels screen shows on rednecks and overweight yanks buying storage units in prime time??? No one watches shopping channels and our show will NEVER screen on a shopping channel. Award winning TV doesnt screen on shopping channels, Im not that desperate:):) Dear Mr. Turnbull. I am writing to advise you that your decision to axe the Broadcasting Licence for Community Television CH31 has just cost your party my vote, starting with the Vic. State Election. Your comment that Channel 31 only has 6000 viewers is absurd and frankly offensive to my intelligence. I regularly watch at least 6 programs on CH 31 and am currently, eagerly awaiting the new seasons of two of them. e.g. The Hunting industry is worth $490 Million dollars to the Victorian economy on an annual basis. Beyond The Divide is the best hunting program I have seen in my 60 years on this planet and it is made by Rob Fickling, a Melbourne Hunter and outfitter, who is the “real deal” not a set up faked footage pundit, as is favoured by commercial garbage purveyors. Fishing is the largest and most financially valuable sport in the world. It is followed avidly by tens of millions of Australians. A CH31 show called Savage Seas is the only real, unedited non faked fishing show on Australian television. It caters for the average Victorian Fisherman and Skindiver. Not fantasy trips that nobody can afford , paid for by sponsors whose inferior products are pushed, to places most of us will never see, as is the norm on Commercial Television. You! Having obviously no interest beyond your Foxtel subscription, have never watched it and pre judge, like most of your cohorts. I personally know 5 friends who watch it as regular as clockwork and never miss an episode. In my Microcosm, that’s not a lot, but multiply that by 10,000 and you have serious viewing. Every hunter I have come across, knows the program and most have watched it. You are obviously clueless on these matters and prefer the opinions of your Wine Club or Golfing friends, rather than the real world. I also know several people who regularly watch a home renovation show, called Mr Sink, which has guided several of them, step by step through home renovations involving plumbing, starting from scratch, taking them episode by episode through to a finished bathroom. There are obviously some programs of which I have absolutely no interest and would be watched by only a tiny audience, but that is what community television is for. These viewers are Australians as well and deserve to see their interests catered to on Community Television, that is it’s purpose. Not to sell off the license to another bunch of idiots flogging Makeup, exercise equipment, diet foods, cooking appliances, vacuum cleaners and a myriad of other garbage I neither need nor want, along with Scammers, preying on lonely, vulnerable people through Tarot Card reading and Pseudo Psychics at $6.00 for every minute these crooks can keep a sucker on the line. It is an indictment on our society, that this can be allowed to occur. All at the expense of something worth watching. There are already seven of these garbage dump Channels, we don’t need an eighth. CH31 cost the government nothing, it is self funded. NITV on the other hand is a taxpayer, White Australia bashing exercise, heavily funded by the Australian Taxpayer. I try to watch it, some programs are interesting informative and entertaining, but these are few and far between. The exercise in Vitriol usually sees me turn it off and go to bed. Why are you not axing this channel? Oh The Aboriginals might complain and the Greens might get upset? There are many people in Victoria who will make your party pay in heavy coin come the next election. Every day seems to add another reason to vote you out of power. We will not forget, you can try Pork Barrelling all you like in the months leading up to the next election, but the die is already cast.
